Semi-Dry FGD and Pulse Energization of Electrostatic Precipitators Fulfills all Emission Requirements for Sinter Plants

The electrostatic precipitator is known to the steel production industry as the preferred de-dusting equipment for sinter strands. Lately, new requirements for desulphurization are presented by the authorities and new ways to improve the efficiency of a precipitator is required. By installation of Semi-dry FGD utilizing lime slurry and/or Pulse Coromax systems as power supply for the ESP, using ultra short (microsecond) pulses –desulphurization and/or emission reduction can be achieved. The Semi-dry FGD system is capable of reaching more than 90% desulphurization and by applying pulse systems, existing precipitator units can be improved without physical enlargement. Emission reduction to less than 30 mg/Nm3 can often be achieved. To understand the operation better, a short description of the theory of desulphurization and precipitation is presented with the factors influencing the performance. Details on the design and operation of the system are presented as well as economical aspects for operation and installation.
