Low Coke Rate Ironmaking in Blast Furnace With Hot Gas Injection
The blast furnace with coke as main fuel is still the primary iron-making process. But at present raw material and fuel conditions, there are many difficulties in a further reduction of coke consumption and raising productivity. Among the alternative iron-making processes, COREX smelting reduction realized commercial production and Hismelt is still in development. In direct reduction, the process of gas-based shaft furnace (Midrex and HYL) is predominant, which only can be used in the regions with abundant and low-price natural gas. Based on the direct reduction shaft furnace and blast furnace as well as COREX smelting reduction process, a new iron-making process was suggested with combination of coal gasification and oxygen smelting. The high temperature gas from Pressurized Gasifier was cooled by the top gas of blast furnace and adjusted to about 800-900℃. The cleaned gas from cyclone was injected into lower part of oxygen blast furnace above the cohesive zone. When the burden reached the cohesive zone, metallic rate was about 80%-90%, which mitigated the direct reduction rate in lower part and realized low coke rate. Compared with the traditional blast furnace, the innovation iron-making process can reduce energy consumption by about 13%, reduce coke rate to about 200kg/thm, and increase greatly the productivity.
