Study on Structure Stability of Blast Furnace Hearth Ceramic Lining
At present, to find ceramic materials with good physic-chemistry characteristics to make the ceramic cup is no longer the big difficulty. However, the stability of the construction, the anti-penetration ability and the adaptability of the working profile of the hot face of the ceramic cup are of critical importance to prolong the campaign life of the ceramic cup itself and then the BF hearth. In a lot of cases, the so called “ceramic cup is formed just by one, two or more rings of the standard shaped ceramic bricks which installed closely against the carbon hot face. In these linings, there are many penetrated linear joints from hot face to cold face throughout the ceramic lining. Both the overall stability of the construction and the anti-penetration ability of the lining are very poor. Therefore, the goal to install ceramic cup, to protect the carbon lining from the erosion of hot metal, would be difficult to be achieved and the life time of the ceramic cup would be not long no matter what excellent materials being used. This paper presents the patents numbered ZL 200320101372.0, ZL 03249014.3 and ZL 03265928.8 that indicate a “Integrated Ceramic Cup structure for BF hearth composed by special shaped ceramic blocks which are all interlocked to each other. In such construction, there is no liner breakthrough joint from hot face to cold face of the ceramic lining. The ceramic lining with this structure can effectively avoid hot metal and gases penetrating into and then through the joints of the ceramic lining and attacking the carbon lining behind. As the result, the campaign life of the BF hearth, and also the campaign life of the blast furnace, would be prolonged. Nowadays “Integrated Ceramic Cup structure has been practiced on many modern blast furnaces and its significant performance has been proved.
