Particle Flow Transition During Blast Furnace Bin Discharge
A Discrete Particle Model of the blast furnace material bin discharge was developed to investigate flowrate dependence on gate opening. It was found that at sufficiently large gate openings, the discharge rate is controlled only by the dimensions of the bin neck, whereas at low gate openings the discharge rate is controlled by the material gate settings. Between these predictable regimes, an intermediate regime exists where both mechanisms are active giving chaotic behaviour. These results were consistent with previously observed plant behaviour.
