Iron-Making Technology Selection Using a Fuzzy Hierarchical TOPSIS Method

This paper presents a new fuzzy hierarchical TOPSIS (FH-TOPSIS) model to select the appropriate iron-making technology. In general, the selection of the appropriate technology is based on different factors, such as economical, technical, environmental, social, and the like. In this paper, the analysis of considered factors involves the expert’s judgment and non-availability exact data on technologies that necessitate in the use of the fuzzy analysis. There are various models of multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) in a fuzzy environment. Furthermore, this paper proposes the fuzzy hierarchical TOPSIS (FH-TOPSIS), which not only is suited for evaluating fuzziness and uncertainty problems, but also can provide accurate criterion weights. The use of the FH-TOPSIS for technology choice of iron-making technologies considering the Iranian conditions is also illustrated. The proposed FH-TOPSIS model can be used to analyze other iron-making technologies by inputting the desirable data.
