Thermodynamics Analyses on the Comprehensive Utilization of Vanadium-Bearing Titanomagnetite
In this paper, thermodynamics calculations on the interactive reactions among related species in the system were made. It indicated that when chlorine agent (such as Cl2, CaCl2, etc.) are introduced into the system and chlorine potential—logpCl2—and oxygen potential—logpO2—are controlled at a certain region, vanadium in the ore can be extracted by gas of vanadium trichloride oxide at 1100 K. Iron in the ore can be carbo–reduced to metallic iron over the temperature range of 1000-1300 K. The obtained is solid products (DRI, slag, etc.). Heating the solid products to certain temperature (more than melting point of iron), the obtained metallic iron is melted and recovered, whereas titanium-rich slag remains solid for separation. The left titanium-rich slag can be used for the produciton of titanium oxide or titanium smelting process as the alternative of raw material. Therefore, a proposal of new process on comprehensively utilizing the vanadium-bearing titanomagnetite is provided based on the thermodynamic analyses.
