Progress of Rotary Hearth Furnace Direct Reduction Technology
Rotary hearth furnace (RHF) direct reduction technology is a technically promising coal-based direct reduction process. With this process, direct reduction iron can be produced by all kinds of iron ores, ferrous material and collected dust from iron & steel plant. In this paper, the development history of rotary hearth furnace direct reduction technology from domestic and abroad is introduced. Several rotary hearth furnace direct reduction technologies including Inmetco, DRyIron, Fastmet and Itmk3 are evaluated in general sense. Furthermore their technical principles and process characteristics are analyzed. It gives solution for the utilization of solid ferrous and zinc oxide dust in iron & steel plant, and describes the technical outlook for the application of rotary hearth furnace direct reduction technology in China.
