Design of Concrete Face Slab for 182 m High NN2 CFRD
(0) The Nam Ngum 2 Hydroelectric Power Project (NN2 HPP) is located approximately 90 km north of Vientiane in central Laos. The dam is of the Concrete face Rockfill dam (CFRD) with the dam height of 182.0 m. The reinforced concrete face slab is laid against the upstream face of the dam,connecting to the dam plinth by the perimeter joint. The face slab will have a minimum thickness of 0.30 m near the dam crest and will increase linearly to a maximum thickness of 0.85 m at the toe of the dam.Design of the face slab begins with the selection of face slab thickness,width and location of vertical and horizontal joints.For improving the performance of concrete face slab,double layers of reinforcement is recommended with 0.4% of the gross section area of the concrete face slab for each way. The reinforcement is increased up to 0.5% of the gross section area of the concrete face slab in the area close to the dam plinth.
