Finite Element Analysis of a Super High Earth Core Rockfill Dam on Deep Overburden
Lots of super high earth core rockfill dams will be built on deep overburden in Sonthwest China. However,at present there is little experience which can be used for reference internationally. In view of a 300m super high earth core dam planned to be built on 100m thick overburden in the middle reach of Jinsha river, the three-dimensional nonlinear finite-element method is adopted to analyze its stress deformation characteristics, and study two design schemes as follows:(1) the deep overburden under the core wall is wholly excavated out;(2) deep overburden under the core wall is partially excavated out and two concrete walls in the overburden are provided to conduct antiseepage.Research results show that in these two schemes, stress deformations in dam and antiseepage bodies are within a acceptable range;dam and antiseepage bodies under a high water level have little possibility to be failed.
