Analysis on Rockfilling Sequences and Impactive Factors in Process of CFRD Dam Embankment in Bakun Hydroelectric Project

The behaviors of dam body deformation occurred in high concrete faced rockfill dam (CFRD) are quite complicated.It should be no doubt that the full face rising-up in all dam filling zones would be most favorable method to mitigate as much as possible the unsynchronized deformation in dam body,however,in the realistic construction,it is almost impossible to realize full faced &.synchronized rising up of the dam body due to various site restrictive factors. This article is going to dig out these restrictive factors by going through the whole process of dam embankment that have been practiced in Bakun CFRD project,and set forth the dam filling sequences that have been carried out in Bakun CFRD project aiming at the above restrictions as well as make primary analysis on filling sequences vs.dam deformations in accordance with actual survey readings that have been collected from dam instrumentations,and consequentially to conclude the following: Although restricted by the realistic conditions the dam body was unable to rise up in full face resulting in varied rates of dam body deformation,the dam will eventually tend to stable and concordant as time moves on,in this connection,the way of simply considering the equal settlement and one-sided-ly emphasizing full-face and synchronized rising up of dam body in course of embankment construction but ignoring economical resources allocation for the work is unadvisable and unnecessary. The practical filling methods that have been set down in consideration of the restrictive factors that may affect the dam body in full face rising-up could be regarded as the factors that should be considered when the marginal condition is required to be defined for computing the CFRD rockfill volume,and the such computed volume is probably much closer to the actual volume. Adoption of some experiential treat methods is for mitigating the oversized unsynchronized deformation of dam body caused by the above factors.
