Study on the Method of Ezpediting RCAC Construction in Cold Rainy Mountainous Area and Its Application
Yele dam is a rock-fill dam with Roller Compacted asphalt Concrete (RCAC) core wall in the center to resist leakage and its height is 124.5 m.Due to the project is located in mountainous area and the average altitude is above 2,500 m,the natural climate conditions are so rigorous that the annual average temperature is only 6.5 ℃ and the winter is as long as 6 to 7 months without summer during the year. The average annual rainfall is as much as 1,872 mm and there are 230 rainy days annually. So the construction duration, suitable for asphalt concrete core-wall constructon,is insufficient and less than 190 days, and the effective work days after deducting from some adverse weather days are only 162. Therefore the construction progress of asphalt concrete corewall could be seriously restricted by the natural conditions in this cold rainy mountainous area.In order to satisfy the control period of 24 months for dam body construction, the quick construction methods were researched and some new progresses have been achieved, such as to pave the asphalt core-wall in the environment temperature under-4 ℃,to pave as thick as 30 cm per layer and to pave 2 layers every day.In this project,435 layers were paved by this method;the quality and stability of the core wall were all qualified. These methods could provide experiences that are worth of reference to similar projects.
