Detection of Cracks of Penstocks of Yele Hydropower Station During Operation
In this paper the seepage pressure in surrounding rocks,steel stress and abnormal changes in opening of gaps between concrete lining and surrounding rocks of Yele Hydropower Station were thoroughly analyzed in combination with the widely existing seepage found during visual inspection of the upper side-wall of the underground powerhouse,the aftermost tailgate chamber,bus gallery and traffic tunnel,A major conclusion was drawn that there was leakage of pressure water from the penstocks at the bifurcation and this may indicate the cracking of the steel pipe. On these sugestions,the pressure pipe was emptied for a thorough checkup. The results confirmed this judgment.Pressure pipe has been continuously in a good working condition since the elimination of defects.
