The Evolution of International Financial Supervision
The financial supervision has been the major focus in the world due to recent financial crises and regulatory concern of Basel II regulations. Over the last decade, in most major industrial countries and many emerging markets, the financial supervisory functions that were once performed by central banks have been combined with those performed by other official agencies and/or self-regulatory organizations to form a single financial services regulator. In this paper we will describe the evolution trends of international financial supervision and compare and contrast the principal models of supervisory oversight currently in use around the Globe, which include: institutional approach, functional approach, integrated approach, twin peaks (objective) approach.
