GE ABMet (Advanced Biological Metals Removal): Setting the Standard for Selenium Removal in Flue Gas Desulf urization Wastewater

As public awareness of environmental concerns has risen globally, increasingly stringent environmental regulations limiting discharge concentrations are being imposed upon the private sector.Coal-fired generating stations have become a target of such regulations for both gaseous emissions and water quality discharge.Release of sulfur dioxide from coal-fired burners can be mitigated by the employment of Wet Flue Gas Desulfurization (WFGD) scrubbers;however, these systems can potentially produce a wastewater stream containing high levels of selenium (Se) and other metals which necessitate further treatment prior to environmental release.
