Efficiency of Selenium Uptake from a Belgian Soil Treated with a Commercial Se-containing Fertilizer by Grass and Maize
In Flanders (Belgium),suboptimal selenium (Se) uptake by humans, especially children, has been reported (Van Biervliet et al.,2001).Selenium supplementation to cows might contribute to solving this problem by increasing contents of bioavailable Se in meat and/or milk (Givens et al.,2004).Due to the low background values in Flemish roughage,Se is currently already supplemented to selected cows as it acts against mastitis (Hogan et al.,1993).
