The Selenium Uptake and Accumulation in Green Tea

Selenium (Se) is an essential trace element for humans.Se-enriched tea can become a healthy drink due to its polyphenols and its source as organic selenium (Wang et al.,2000).Because the Se-enriched tea from the natural Se-enriched areas have a poor quality,low output,and large variation in Se content,the biofortification of famous China green tea by spraying selenite on leaves was performed (Hu et al.,1999,2003;Sha et al.,1996;Xu et al.,1996).In this study,soils were supplemented with Se fertilizer where Biluochun and Yellow Mountain Maofeng tea was grown,and the uptake and accumulation of Se was evaluated in the tea plant.
