Measurement and Characterization Method of the Small Solid Motor Plume
In order to establish the relationship between transmittances obtained by different methods, the velocity of the solid motor plume in a smoke tunnel was measured using a pitot tube in this paper. The result indicated that the plume velocity measured by this method was consistent with real value. The relative plume density was calculated from the plume velocity, mass burning rate and smoke tunnel size. Based on the Beer-Lambert law, the signal transmittances of plume obtained in different conditions were convert ed to value in standard condition. Therefore, it is possible to compare the transmittances, and determine the plume level from the data measured in different conditions.
