Numerical Simulations of Coupled Thermal-Mechanical Modeling for Cook-Off Ezperiments

The cook-off of explosive involves the combined effects of heat transfer and mechanical response. Studying coupled thermal-mechanical effects during cook-off experiments is important for detailed analysis of the behaviors of explosive. In this paper, a coupled thermal-mechanical model of explosive is established with finite element method. The numerical simulations with different contact conditions are executed and temperature distribution, ignition regime, expansion strain and stress status have been obtained. The calculated results indicate that with different contact conditions, explosive has different expansion displacements when heated. Both strain and stress vary a lot with location.
