“IWRM Guidelines at River Basin Levelwas launched by UNESCO in March 2009 in order to raise awareness and to facilitate the practical implementation of IWRM at the river basin level. The Guidelines stresses the necessity of recognizing river basin as the basic unit for implementing IWRM, and illustrate the concept of IWRM Spiral model, an evolutionary and adaptive implementation process of IWRM. The Guidelines include numerous case studies at the river basin level that present good examples of practical and achievable IWRM methodologies, and keys for success extracted from good examples for helping IWRM succeed at basin level. The Guidelines also illustrate the principles of actions and interests of water-related sectors in water management so as to help water practitioners in facilitating IWRM coordination.
