Study on the special engineering geological problems of the Golf zones in the Middle Route project

The main problem on the middle route project (MRP in short) of South-North Water Transfer Project (SNWTP) crossing the coalmine areas is the goaf stability. Thought theoretical analysis, field investigation and ground deformation monitoring, it is suggested that the overlying strata of the goaf zone in the Jiaozuo coalfield that we have researched have the characteristics of trizonal form failure and continuous ground surface deformation that needs about three years to stabilize. Those goaf zones having existed exceeding 3 years could be considered as suitable sites for the water transfer route, but there still are the prob- lems of seepage and depression, counter measures are proposed for dealing with these problems while the route crossing such zones. Then the author proposed new suggested routes for construction of the water transfer route in this area, which is arranged to cross the old goaf zones and avoid the new goaf and un-mined zones, which would shorten the route length and decrease the loss of coalmine occupied by the route.
