Geological instabilities along Thessaloniki - Kavala section of Egnatia Highway in N.Greece

The present paper describes the main places, along Thessaloniki-Kavala section of Egnatia Highway in N. Greece with characteristic instability phenomena, and studies the mechanism of sliding and rock falls, so as support measures and methods of excavation will be estimated. The orientation of the discontinuities and the poor quality of the rock mass, that creates circling sliding, were responsible for the instability. Rainfall also helps landslide to be occurred.
