Remote sensing for neogenetic landslide interpretation and assessment in the Three Gorges area of the Yangtze River

In September 2008, The Three Gorges Project started the high level water stored in the reservoir to rise from 156 meters at present to 172 meters. But high water level and its fluctuation periodically will cause the slope unstable by inundating and changing the conditions of underground water (Luo Xianqi et a1., (2005); Luo Qihong et a1.,(2008)). We define neogenetic landslide as under the condition of the reservoir water inundation and its fluctuation periodically, the area where is stable before will trend to be unstable or to be a landslide. Compare to the landslides we known, the significant feature of neogenetic landslides are that we do not the place and the time, and always happened abruptly and caused huge damages and casualties.
