Preparation and Evaluation of Trimethylated Chitosan Modified Biodegradable Nanoparticles as A Novel Brain Targeting Drug Carrier

A large number of drugs delivered to the central nervous system are impeded by the tight restriction of the blood-brain barrier (BBB). Consequently, many brain diseases are undertreated. Coupling drugs with specific brain targetor results in absorption-mediated transcytosis (AMT) through the BBB. Trimethylated chitosan (TMC) is a quaternized chitosan derivative. As a cationic ligand, TMC may facilitate the active transport of nanoparticles via AMT pathway. In light of the above, TMC modified biodegradable nanoparticle was developed as a novel drug carrier for brain targeting and its brain-targeting effects were investigated.
