Quantum Paraelectrics Revisited Under Effective Field Approach

Quantum paraelectrics are quasi critical systems with a high zero point energy that avoids ferroelectric order, and hence they do not undergo the corresponding phase transition. The quantum effective field approach, which substitutes the quantum oscillator for the classical one 1, turns out to be a very simple and useful way to explain the behavior of these materials 2,3, even when mixed in solid solutions with an isomorphous pure ferroelectric 4. In this work we propose, using this approach, a little review of quantum paraelectrics from the point of view of the factors that influence their zero point energy.
