Conductance Probe for the Measurement of Liquid Volume Fraction and Azial Velocity in Gas-Liquid Two Phase Flow

A conductance probe which can be used to measure parameters of gas-liquid two phase flow is designed and constructed in this paper. The proposed conductance probe consists of ring electrode pairs placed on the internal wall of a cylindrical test duct and can be applied to measure the liquid volume fraction and axial velocity in horizontal pipe simultaneously. The probe electrode geometry is designed based on the method of finite element analysis so that the regions of the gas-liquid mixture that are interrogated by the probe are optimal for the parameters measurement. The performance of the conductance probe is investigated experimentally with reference to stratified, annular and bubble phase distribution. In general, static calibration shows that this geometry of conductance probe has excellent linearity. The designed conductance probe will be further tested through the multiphase flow loop and examine its validity in the future work
