Application of 3D Laser Scanner in Topographic Change Monitor and Analysis

In view of fast and precision measuring request of terrain data of Model Yellow River dynamic riverbed physical model experiment, as well as the difficulty of the analysis on the topographic change, this article proposes analysis system based on 3D laser scanner technology. The article introduces the work principle of 3D laser scanner. The insufficiency of 3D laser scanner technology has been analyzed when the instrument is applied in topographic change survey of the dynamic river-bed physical model experiments. As an example, in the experiment of the slope surface erosion caused by rains, the topographic tiny change monitoring analysis using the GIS technique is accomplished based on the results from 3D laser scanne. The conclusion is beneficial for the further application of 3D laser scanner technology in the dynamic river-bed physical model experiments. And it extends the application domain of 3D laser scanner in topographic change monitoring.
