Fermentation Quality of Alfalfa Silages Treated with Additives

1. Introduction Ensiling alfalfa can keep the nutrition component of alfalfa and avoid the bad weather condition during harvesting. But the characteristic of alfalfa cause the silage quality bad under high water condition, which has high buffering capacity (BC), low water soluble carbohydrates (WSC) content and low lactiC acid bacteria content. So applying additives to improve fermentation quality has been already paid close attention to. Our objective is to study on the dynamic fermentation characteristics of alfalfa silage and the dynamic effect of additives at 30℃. 2. Materials and methods Alfalfa was chopped 2cm in length and ensiled in silos with different additives. The additives were previous fermented juice(PFJ), cellulase(CF) and previous fermented juice+cellulase(PFJ+CF). PFJ was added at 2ml/kg. CF was added at 0.003%. And PFJ+CF were added at 2ml/kg+0.003%. Each treatment had three replications. All treatments were sampled for analysis of fermentation quality after stored at 30℃ for 1, 3, 5, 7,14 and 28 days.
