Effect of Whole Crop Rice Silage on Performance of Cow and Profitability

1. Introduction Whole crop rice silage (WCRS) producted in South Korea is important because it can replace imported feed as forage fed to ruminants. This study is about how feeding WCRS as a substitute for some of the forage to the Holstein lactating cow influences the animal production and profitability. 2. Material and Methods Milk production and profitability were investigated by using days from 0 to 100 were considered to be early lactation, days 101 to 200 mid lactation, and days from 201 to 305 late lactation. Holstein lactating cow fed with 55.0% WCRS. Control (C) was composed of 10 kg of concentrates, 2 kg of alfalfa hay, 5 kg of timothy hay and 2kg of rice straw with 40 % of moisture contents which are conventional practice of dairy farm. Treatment (T) was composed of 10 kg of concentrates, 2 kg of alfalfa hay, 3 kg of timothy hay and 10 kg of WCRS (as-fed basis).
