Study on the Efficient Adsorbent for Phosphorus Removal in Environmental Waters

In this study the efficiencies of phosphate removal by static absorption of three naturally derived materials attapulgite, vermiculite and dolomite were tested. Experiments were also conducted to study the modification, the absorption capacities of phosphate removal by modified adsorbent. The results shows that naturally derived materials have little capability for phosphate removal. After calcinations-modification, these minerals can increase capability of phosphate removal largely. The optimal conditions of calcination-modification were determined to be 2 h at 700 , 2 h at 500 and 2 h at 700 for vermiculite, attapulgite and dolomite respectively. Under such conditions, the phosphorus removal rate of the three materials reached 93%, 74.6% and 97.8% with the dosage of 5 g/L. Excellent performance could be expected especially in low P-containing water.
