Thermal Convection in a Shallow Closed Water Body with Floating Aquatic Plants

We examined the influence of aquatic plants on the magnitude of thermal disturbance in a closed water body. As a result of hydraulic experiment on the attenuation of underwater illuminance in the covered part, it was understood that the attenuation rate of illuminance depended on the kind of the aquatic plant. In addition, the hydraulic experiment on the attenuation of thermal flux at the water surface with the kind and luxuriant density of aquatic plants showed that thermal flux at the water surface decreased when the luxuriant density of aquatic plants increased, and that the developmental velocity of mixed layer decreased based on the attenuation of thermal flux. As the numerical experiment by using above results as the boundary conditions at the water surface, the water temperature distribution and the development process of convection cells changed due to the horizontal convection was caused by the inhomogeneous disturbance in proportion as the luxuriant density and the degree of cover of aquatic plants
