Study on Replacement of Cement with Fly Ash in Polymer Modified Mortar
Fly ash (FA) was used partially as alternative of cement in polymer modified mortars (PMMs), which were prepared based on pure polyacrylates latex (PL), Portland cement (PC) and river sand (RS). Some properties of the PMMs with different dosage of FA were investigated, and the possible mechanism of the PMM was postulated. The results indicate that FA can be used, partially, for replacing ordinary PC in polymer mortar systems. And the combination of FA and PC shows synergism in some strength behavior and resistance to water permeability. Most of the properties of the mortars, such as setting time, the workability, the flexural strength and adhesion strength are improved. However, the compressive strength decreases with increasing of FA and PL content. And water permeability and absorption decrease with increasing FA/PC ratios and PL/IB (inorganic binder) ratios, respectively.
