Study on the pH Control and Ozygen-Releasing Characteristic of Ozygen-releasing Compounds

Oxygen–releasing compounds (ORCs), such as metal peroxide is an emerging oxygen source for microbes in bioremediation of contaminated groundwater, but the high pH value caused by metal peroxide has negative influence on its application. Batch experiments were conducted to explore how to regulate pH during the process of releasing oxygen of calcium peroxide (CaO2). The results showed that the high pH caused by CaO2 could be regulated to the range of 6.5–8.5 that help for microbial growth by using potassium dihydrogen phosphate (KH2PO4) and ammonium sulphate ((NH4)2SO4), which are necessary nutrients for microbes. In addition, granular ORCs consisted of CaO2, KH2PO4, (NH4)2SO4, kaolin, etc. was prepared. The pH value of solution caused by granular ORCs approached the neutral, and its oxygen–releasing performance was also improved.
