Air Quality Mon Air Quality Monitoring in Selected Urban Areas in Myanmar during 2007- 2008
The ambient air quality monitoring of selected urban areas in Myanmar was conducted. In the winter of 2008, in Yangon, total suspended particulate matter (TSPM) and particulate matter (PM10) in commercial site (143.21±27.37, 71.75±12.64) μg/m3 and surrounding near by industrial zone (188.66 ± 26.00, 136.92 ± 24.9) μg/m3 respectively were higher than WHO guidelines and day to day variations were significant. Sulphur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide were below guidelines. The winter air quality was in agreement with the pilot survey conducted in the summer in Yangon. In the summer of 2008, in Mandalay, TSPM and PM10 of commercial site (495.87, 112.49) μg/m3, and near by industrial zone (350.57, 131.54) μg/m3 respectively exceeded guidelines. Air quality major cities mainly depends upon vehicles emission.
