Effective Theoretical Model for Electric Leak Location at Landfill
To solve the disability of conventional model used in electrical leak location when measurement electrodes were buried under the liner, a new model of high voltage DC leak detection is developed. In the model a hole in a thin dielectric sheet is represented by a current source and a sink on opposite sides of the sheet. Such a configuration is analyzed by using poisson equation. And the integral equation is arrived by superimposing the primary potential and the secondary potential. To identify the validity of the model and locate the leak in the geomembrane liner, experiments for detecting leaks above the liner and below the liner were carried out respectively at a small scale geomembrane lined facility. Excellent agreement between experimental data and simulated model data shows the model is accurate in predicting leak signatures and suggests the solution may be useful to model field data acquired in landfill.
