Heavy Metals and Organic Pollutants Monitoring in Dianshan Lake

Dianshan Lake is located in the upstream Huangpu River and is the main drinking water source conservation area for Shanghai, China. However, in recent years, with the rapid development of economy, the quality of the water has decreased, and water pollution has become a more and more serious problem. In this paper, volatile and semi-volatile organic compounds and heavy metals (Zn, Pb, Cd, Ni, Fe, Mn, Cr, Cu and Ag) in the lake were determined and discussed. Results indicated that concentrations of organic pollutants and most of the metals can meet the corresponding limits set in the national standards, but the concentrations of Fe and Mn are much higher than the limits, which need to be paid enough attention in the treatment of tap water.
