Two-D Stochastic Water Quality Model Based on Mass Transfer Theory for Warning Emergency Water Pollution Accidents

A kind of two-dimensional stochastic water quality model based on mass-transfer theory is presented and established in this paper. It is mainly used in the simulation and predication of river pollutant mixing zone (PMZ) and the real-time warning of emergency water pollution accidents or disasters. Based on using transfer coefficient to describe the diffusion process and theoretical research methods, this paper recommends that the pollutant isoconcentration line in the river can be taken as the transfer interface. The stochastic function that describes the pollution’s transfer speed is established, which shows that the transfers speed of pollutant are non-stationary stochastic processes. By the transfer ellipse and the envelope line generated during moving, stochastic functions which respectively describe the length, width and area of the pollutant zone in the river are construct, correspondingly, their expected value and variance function-expression are deduced. In this paper, the PMZ of the nitrobenzene, in catastrophic pollution accident in Songhua River during Heilongjiang China (2005), is predicted and analyzed, and the area of the PMZ is calculated. Experimental computations show that this model’s error on simulating the river’s experimental pollutant concentration is generally less than 20 percent, and with the parameter calibration the concrete value of both initial concentration and transfer coefficient can be obtained (Kx=0.6-1 m/s), which indicate that the modeling method is practical and effective in warning.
