Performance of Combined Biological Purification Tank-Ecological Floating Raft System in the Treatment of High Urine Content Rural Sewage in Chongming Island
Random disposal of rural domestic sewage has seriously threatened rural environment. Development of new technologies which are suitable for local domestic sewage treatment is the key way out. The combined biological purification tank- ecological floating raft treatment system was studied to treat the high urine content rural sewage in Chongming Island. The results showed that the biological purification tank can effectively complete the organic substance degradation, and the ecological floating raft can further remove the nutriments such as nitrogen and phosphorus. Under the stable operating conditions, the contributing rates for removal of chemical oxygen demand (CODCr), suspended solids (SS), ammonia nitrogen (NH4 +-N), total nitrogen (TN) and total phosphorus (TP) were 78%, 35%, 25%, 37% and 53% respectively in the biological purification tank, and 22%, 65%, 75%, 63% and 47% respectively in the ecological floating raft. Furthermore, this system exhibits many advantages such as footprint, low cost and flexible in operating as well as its viability in rural areas.
