Decolorization of Zyo Dye Orange II with Copper (II)/Phenantroline/Hydrogen Perozide Systems
The decolorization efficiency of zyo dye Orange II by Fenton-like (Cu2+/H2O2) processes was investigated. The optimum conditions for the decolorization of Orange II in Fenton-like processes were obtained at pH 2.94, with an initial Cu2+ amount of 0.0075 mmol and initial H2O2 amount of 5 mmol. In the Cu-ligand complexes system, phenantroline was the most efficient ligand tested for Orange II decolorization compared as organic acids. This may be related to the phenantroline-Cu complexes, which could generate the different radicals, such as OH·CH3O·and CH3OH·The radicals are able to oxidize many organic compounds including Orange II.
