Pretreatment Study of the Chemical Industrial Organic Wastewater by Reduction and Ozidation of Fe2+/ Fe3+

Fe2+/Fe3+ reduction –oxidation treatment was investigated at laboratory scale for the degradation of chemical industrial organic wastewater containing the nonbiodegradable nitrobenzene compounds. Effects of reduction time, oxidation time, pH in oxidation and the dosage of FeSO4 were monitored. The results showed that, the appropriate reduction time was 40 min; the appropriate oxidation time was 20min. when the pH was 5, the relatively low cost and the pollutant removal rate could be achieved at the same time in the experiment. The appropriate dosage FeSO4 in the experiment was 750 mg·L-1. In this condition, the removal rate of nitrobenzene reached 71%, and removal rate of COD was high to 18%. The biodegradability of the wastewater was improved and the BOD5/CODcr value raises from original 0.17 to last 0.28 after the Fe2+/Fe3+ reduction –oxidation treatment.
