Analyses of Desizing Wastewater and Related Compounds during Anaerobic Biodegradation
The transformation of desizing wastewater in a hybrid anaerobic baffled reactor (HABR) was investigated. Results of the product analyses indicated that some of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) molecules could be facultatively broken down into simple intermediates, which would be further degraded under subsequent process. The main compositions of influent and effluent were determined by Fourier Transform Infrared Raman Spectrometer (FTIR) and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectrometer (NMR). Probably, the molecule chain of PVA fractured in the process of anaerobic biodegradation by the microbes, which had the same degradation mechanism under anaerobic conditions as that under aerobic conditions.
