Sludge Reduction Induced by Tubifez in Wastewater Treatment Plant
In present research, a technology of sludge reduction induced by T. Tubifex-microbes symbiotic system in a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) was draw attention. The sludge could be significantly reduced in the wastewater treatment system after 18 months of the new tubifex-microbes symbiotic operation. As the results shown, the relative sludge reduction was nearly 75% and the apparent sludge reduction rate was approximately 0.42 g-SS/(g-T. Tubifex per day). However, an ammonia level in the effluent was higher than that in the influent before process innovation. An effective method of nitrogen removal in the T. Tubifex-microbes symbiotic system was also innovated and proposed. The results of full scale tests showed that the two-stage reactor can achieve both sludge reduction and pollutants removal in which the first stage favors the growth and accumulation of predators in the biological filter media and the second operates as SBR.
