Identification and Characteristics of Flocculent Strain

In this paper, a new bacterium M-6, which shows excellent characteristics of flocculation, has been isolated from the activated sludge and identified as Alcaligenes faecalis partia by 16S rDNA sequence analysis. The characteristics of flocculation were measured and orthogonal experiments were carried out to find out the optimum culture conditions of M-6 for the flocculation. The prime flocculation condition and its growing curve were determined. The flocculating agent FA-8 has been extracted from M-6, the contents of sugar and the total nitrogen were measured and the infrared spectrum map was obtained for FA-8. The results showed that the main flocculating substance in M-6 was polysaccharide.
