Biodegradation Strain and Degradation Kinetics for Tetrachlorobiphenyl

The strain named as T-2, was isolated from the activated sludge domesticated by waste water with Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). T-2 was chosen as an effective degradation strain for tetrachlorobiphenyl after T-2 was identified as Staphylococcus epidermidis by 16S rDNA analysis and compared in the NCBI database. Under the condition of 30℃, 150rpm and 0.2% of inoculation amount, the degradation of tetrachlorobiphenyl could reach 73.54% in the fifth day and the degradation kinetic equation corresponded with first-order reaction kinetics. It was found that tetrachlorobiphenyl had played an slightly effect on the growth for T-2. However, extra carbon source with glucose played an adverse effect on the growth for T-2, the degradation of tetrachlorobiphenyl was improved. Several factors were discussed which could affect the growth of T-2. One of the most important factors was pH, the second was shaking speed, the last was environmental temperature.
