The Use of the Collembola Reproduction Test in Bioassays of Polluted Soils
The use of ecotoxicological testing for the evaluation of soil pollution could represent an interesting complement to chemical analysis. The Folsomia candida reproduction test was initially intended to evaluate the toxicity of pure chemical compounds on a soil arthropod. We applied this test to three polluted soils. We show that some potentially useful information on soils toxicities can be obtained with this test (LOEC, ECx), but the results must be interpreting with cautions because physico-chemical parameters of the soils, such as organic matter interfere with the bioavailability of the pollutants.
