Study on Principles of Liquid Gasoline Transfer in Soil
The purpose of this paper is to study liquid gasoline’s transfer in the soil of unsaturated zone after leakage has happened. Soil column tests were conducted to investigate the mass transfer feature of gasoline in soil in achieving the measurements of the capillary rise height and impregnation height. The result shows that the capillary raise height and impregnation height matches the Washburn’s equation. And the relationship of run distance versus elapsed time chart indicates that the chart should be described by three regions. The first region is the activities of capillary and wetting. In the second region, the impregnation speed gradually slowed down after the capillarity disappeared, the wetting became dominant run force. And the third region, liquid front is forced going by wetting. Contaminated field soil and pollutant were tested to compare the components with Gas Chromatograph. The pattern and the distribution of the components on the chromatograms show that the components in contaminated soil from different distance are same as pollutant. It indicated that the impregnation is a dominated mass transfer and other inter-phase mass transfer is less.
