Study on Absorption of Heavy Metal by Capsicum Annuum Linn and Brassica Chinensis in Contaminated Soil
The ability of Capsicum annuum Linn and Brassica chinensis to accumulate the heavy metal ions of Lead (Pb) and Copper (Cu) was assessed under different concentrations through that laboratory incubation and pot experiment were conducted in this study. The some absorption interactions between plants and heavy metals pollution were investigated under six concentrations of Pb2+ and Cu2+ (5 mg昄-1, 10 mg昄-1, 50 mg昄-1, 100 mg昄-1, 250 mg昄-1 and 500mg昄-1) with a control group. The results showed that the effect of Pb2+ and Cu2+ stress on seed germination and seeding growth at the two vegetable crops was obvious. Moreover, the uptake of Pb2+ and Cu2+ by two vegetable crops was studies too. The results showed that seed germination was not affected adversely when Pb2+ and Cu2+ concentrations were lower(Pb2+<100 mg·L-1, Cu2+<50 mg·L-1). But higher concentration Pb2+ and Cu2+ had negative effect on germinating energy and germination rate of seeds of C. annuum and B. chinensis. Cu2+ had more depression on seed germination of the two vegetable crops compared with Pb2+ at the same concentration. Growth of seeds of two vegetable crops had no great changes at lower concentrations of Pb2+ and Cu2+, but their leaf and root were gradually reduced, with increased Pb2+ and Cu2+ concentrations. The effect of Pb2+ and Cu2+ on the root was much more obvious than them on the shoot. With the increase of Pb2+ and Cu2+, Pb2+ and Cu2+ contents in the C. annuum and B. chinensis were different. Two vegetable crops had accumulated amount of Pb2+ in the range of 100-250 mg·L-1, but uptake of Pb2+ by B. chinensis was higher than that of C. annuum. The uptake of B. chinensis for Cu2+ was showed a poor efficiency. The results further confirm the efficiency of B. chinensis as an accumulator for Pb2+ and not for Cu2+.
