Germicidal Effect and Kinetics Using Nonthermal Argon Plasma
The influences of RF power, treatment time, gas flux and organic pollutant on germicidal effect (GE) of Escherichia coli (E. coli) were studied in nonthermal plasma generator. Argon gas was as the work gas. The results showed that GE value could reach 4.633, namely the germicidal efficiency were 99.998% in the active discharge zone under the conditions of plasma RF power 100 W, exposure time 120 s and argon flux 20 cm3/min. The GE reduced rapidly with increasing the concentration of organic pollutant. Furthermore, based on the experimental data of GE, the kinetics curve and mathematical model of sterilization were obtained, and then the inactivation course of E. coli was analyzed after comparing the obtained kinetics curve with the typical one in classical report.
