Analysis of the changes in the Lake Poyangs Wetland from 2000 to 2007

Based on the NDVI data provided by MODIS/Terra, an unsupervised classification has been carried out for analyzing the changes of the Lake Poyangs Wetland from 2000 to 2007. The Lake Poyang is suffering water shortage during this period. The year-around open water surface of this lake is decreasing at a rate of 72.98 km2 per year. It is shown that the recent decreases in both the precipitation in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River and the watershed of the Lake Poyang have great influences on the evolution of the wetland area. It is probable that the structure of wetland in this area has also been changed to some extent during this period.
