Analysis of flow characteristics in a narrow path open-channel model

This paper presents the basic analysis of flow characteristics in a narrow path open-channel model in its normal and inundated state conditions. This study aims to determine the flow behavior and compare results with the existing study and verify its effectiveness in addressing flood water overflow. to attain the aforementioned objectives, three methods of analysis were used:①laboratory experiments; ②numerical simulation; ③theoretical analysis. The results gathered from the laboratory, numerical and theoretical experiments show a good match for both cases. In a normal state condition, water abruptly increases at the approach narrow section; velocity speeds up as it enters the same; and an asymmetrical flow pattern occurs at the downstream side. However, in an inundated state condition, overflow occurs from the approach narrow section and flows back to the upstream sides of floodplain. Extents of this research confirm the previous study.
