Water budget analysis by combination modeling of groundwater and river water flow in Kyoto basin

It is important to investigate and analyze the water budget and the material balance in basin-wide for conservation and utilization of the water resources. Especially, it refers to sustainable water resource management for the future and emergency water supply. In this study, the groundwater flow in Kyoto Basin is simulated by the two-dimensional saturation groundwater flow model and it clarified hydrological features of water circulation in the basin. Some data sets were prepared for simulation, for examples, detailed digital elevation, land-use, average of daily groundwater level and precipitation. Furthermore, the aquifer layer was identified based on the data base of boring in study area. Parameters in groundwater flow model were determined following some investigations and observations. Calculated groundwater level at some stations could simulate observed data with the high accuracy. The small scale model aims for the analysis of the spatial characteristics of groundwater flow affected by transportation between river and groundwater flow and spatial distribution of soil in aquifer. This model could simulate the faster groundwater flow along the river course and it could also show around the edge of base rock which described in historical documents and scientific investigation. Moreover model analysis could simulate the water budget in river flow, because of consideration of water transportation between river water, sub-surface water and groundwater in small scale area.
